How Can severe Ear Pain Be Treated?

Hi. I m on day 3 of a sharp pain behind my right ear. The pain is intermittent, sharp and quick and lasts for just a couple of seconds. It s enough for me to flinch and catch my breath when it happens, with jolts several minutes apart. It s almost like an electrical jolt. It has been waking me up occasionally at night, too. The more exact location is where the tips of your eyeglasses would rest on that bone behind your ear. This is new to me and perplexing. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!
